On February 22, 2020, to commemorate World Encephalitis Day, Jackie hosted her inaugural Brain Walk at the YMCA track in Bismarck, North Dakota. To her heartfelt surprise and excitement, the event had a turnout of 100 people, and gained international attention from The Encephalitis Society and from local press. Jackie’s husband and children joined her, along with her parents, other family, many friends and her neurologist. Other longtime friends and special guests that joined her included: Congressman Kelly Armstrong (R-ND), North Dakota State Senator Erin Oban (D-Dist. 35) and Bismarck City Commissioner Nancy Guy. Participants and supporters were encouraged to wear red for the day. Jackie was thrilled to watch the sea of red walking along the track and to see #Red4WED posts on her social media pages, all to raise awareness for encephalitis.
